On Saturday, 28th October 10am-1pm, our Nafasi member artist Thobias Minzi will run this month's exciting installment of Chap Chap Mural : Public Art Workshop. Participants of the workshop will get a chance to learn from the amazing painter, photographer, videographer himself, and work alongside him to paint a beautiful Mural on the walls of our music studio at Nafasi Art Space.

We're looking forward to welcoming you.

If you have any questions or want more information please just send an email to info@nafasiartspace.org
On Saturday 1pm-2pm there will be an opening for the exhibition "Safari ya Maua" by a group of young Tanzanian women artists. Before that they will exhibiting their work on Tue-Wed 24-25 Oct in a private exhibition at the Hyatt Regency – the Kilimajaro Hotel, in Kinondoni as part of NMB (National Microfinance Bank)'s project "Making Finance Work For Women".
For many of the artists, this will be their first time showcasing their artwork in a public exhibition. There isn't a lot of spaces supporting women in the art world in the country, so this is progressive step towards creating opportunities for female visual artists in Tanzania. The exhibition will run for one month from 28th October - 30th November.
So stop at Nafasi and support the female art world!

RECAP

HOME CONTEMPORARY ART EXHIBITION
The HOME exhibition opening held on Friday 13th Otcober at DARCH (Dar Center for Architecture and Heritage), was an outstanding success. If you were unlucky enough to miss the opening, you can still stop by DARCH anytime between 10am-4pm to see the exhibition over the next few months.

9 artists and 4 performing groups showcased their artworks expressing what HOME meant to them. Each made an attempt to respond to the question "What is Home? What does it mean to be at home? To find or make one?" in a creative, personal and enlightening way. The show was put together beautifully and all the visitors were completely fascinated by what they saw.

ARTIST HANGOUT WITH WASHINGTON MASANJA
Thursday's hangout with our new Artist in Residence Washington Masanja was a wonderful opportunity for the AIR to introduce himself to the audience antalk about his work and life experience. He talked about what it is like being a fine artist in Tanzania, and his work in different media i.e. wood (making furniture, music instruments) painting (water color) and drawing (charcoal).

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT

This week's Artist spotlight focuses on Irham Jaruph. She currently lives in Bagamoyo, but was born and raised in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. She was one of our Artists in Residence this year, and was also one of the winners of the 2016 Spanish Art Competition "Don Quixote: A Spanish Myth through Tanzanian Eyes", which we partnered with the Embassy of Spain in Tanzania. She was also an Artist in Residence at Gibbs Farm in Karatu and has shown her work at exhibitions in Bagamoyo and Nyumba ya Sanaa in Dar es Salaam.

Through her artwork, Irham aims to find out the problems facing society especially children and learn how to solve them. She expresses her many thoughts on these issues by working with different art mediums such as clay, wood carving, metal work and painting. Besides creating artwork, she is the main director of the Bagamoyo Young Artist Centre, a non-profit organization that creates space for children to practice art outside school.

Irham describes her work in her own words: "I strive to promote positive social changes in the lives of youth and use my work to show how art rooted in Tanzanian culture can empower, and be used for economic sustainability. My work is not only a critical eye on society, my works are also my social statements of freedom, beauty, empathy, and hope."

Her beautiful and poignant artworks can be seen on weekdays 9am-5pmSaturday 10am-5pm at Nafasi Art Space, and are currently up for sale. For more information email us at: info@nafasiartspace.org
