The Student Community,
Invited Guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is difficult and indeed politically unwise to decline a speaking

invitation from the former president Ali Hassan Mwinyi who is also the chancellor of this prestigious KIU Dar campus. So let me thank you very much for inviting me to be guest of honor to this event. I would also like to congratulate each one of you for your dedication, sacrifice and hard work which has resulted into academic success. But we all know that behind any success there is somebody who continuously gives a push, therefore I would like to recognize all the lecturers, teachers and supporting staff for the job well done to this class of 2014. And for you President Mwinyi, I offer my congratulations for becoming Dr. Ali Hassan Mwinyi following the Doctorate of Science award you just received on 14
November 2014 in Kampala. To the University, do accept my

congratulations for the good job you are doing and I am overly optimistic that Tanzania Commission for Universities will grant you a status of a fully-fledged University in Tanzania.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Dear graduates

Education is a master key to success; the more you are educated the more likely you are to get a good job. Good job translate into prosperity. I hasten to call of you, to search for jobs after this graduation. I know you will face challenges around employment, because the labour market is highly competitive in both government and private sector, but you should not despair when you don’t get a job within months or even a year. But you should always remain with the motto of “search and apply”. As you graduate, you are expected to be good citizens and in fact law abiding citizen wherever you will be, freedom and democracy have boundaries

and as human beings we must always observe the rules that govern our societies. To quote the Registrar of Westminster Parliament in the United Kingdom One Mr. Peter “You are not Free and it is not meant that you should be, books of rules and regulations are placed on your tables and you will never get rid of them until your reach your grave then you will be free. And only then”

And for you female graduates, Congratulations for your remarkable academic performance. In the past, education was denied of you. The 4 type of education you received did not enable you to understand the nature of your subjection let alone to take your leading roles in a society. Political awakening if any was quickly annihilated by the sheer frowning society. It was sometimes the wives of politicians who held high political and public positions. But unfortunately these women represented more
their husbands’ interests than the interests of their fellow poor toiling women of Africa. And through physical and economic cohesion, they succumbed to male subjection and exploitation; they also succumbed to the appropriation of their own sweat in production and reproduction.

What a strange myth of African life!

Education has emancipated an African woman from the bondage of

perpetual exploitation and subjection. Education has made you free and you can enter the labour market with no or little discrimination. You can enter into politics and compete at all levels from a cell leader to the highest office of the land.

For you who will be based in Tanzania, we expect you to participate fully in the affairs of the country that matters to you personally and your communities. All issues around development and well-being of the people should be at the center of you concern.

5 We also do expect of you to play a role in understanding and be engaged in the process of remaking of Tanzania’s constitution. As young people form majority of the population in our country, you must step up and make your voice heard as the constitution will define a huge part of you future. This goes along with the elections next year for those who are 18 years and above. You are learned persons and must be aware of you civic role. Once again, I congratulate you, graduating students on your remarkable
academic achievement. I wish you great success in whatever profession or business you may choose to invest your efforts on.
Go and change the world!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR KIND ATTENTION.
